Custom Design

Telling your story through romantic adornment is what we do. Custom Design is how we do it.

The heart of the process

Over the last couple hundred years, fast-fashion and mass production have eliminated the relationship between client and artisan. While this can make the process of finding clothing and accessories more convenient, it also makes the process impersonal and—dare we say—bland.

At Marian May Atelier, we have a vision to see the client-artisan relationship renewed in our society. By working directly with an artist, you receive personal attention to your own style, needs, vision, and individuality, which puts you at the heart of the process, not a corporation.

A note from the artist

The best part of my job as an artist is getting to experience your story and interpret it through tangible materials, creating a work of art you’ll feel amazing wearing and cherish for years to come.

I see my artistic role as a storyteller and a guide, someone who listens to who you are and helps you tell that story to others.

The Custom Design Process

I. Consultation

You’ll begin by virtually meeting with Naomi, who will guide you through discussing your vision and style.

II. Design

Based on the consultation, Naomi will sketch a few design options for you to choose from.

III. Virtual Fitting

After selecting a design, you’ll be guided through taking important measurements.

IV. Creation

You’ll sit back and relax while Naomi brings your custom piece to life in the Atelier.

V. First Look

You’ll get a chance to see photos of the piece and request any modifications before it is finalized.

VI. Delivery

After your custom piece is finalized, it will arrive at your door!

Additional Service
Offerings

  • Create a collection of coordinating or matching accessories and jewelry for your bridal party.

  • Make sure you shine your brightest in your custom adornment by having the artist onsite during your special day. Available in the New England area, California, and select destination wedding locations.

  • Our pieces are designed to last, but prolonged exposure to oils, sprays, and perfumes (and unforeseeable accidents) can diminish the beauty and finish of your custom adornment. Post-Event Cleaning and Repair is the best way to make sure that your custom piece is ready to be stored or displayed after a long day of memory-making.

  • Appreciate the artistry of your custom adornment every day by having it framed or encased after your event. Keepsaking also includes complementary post-event cleaning and repair.

Pricing

Since every piece is custom designed to fit your individual needs and vision, pricing is done on an individual basis.

During your consultation, you will have a chance to communicate your budget range. This range informs the designs Naomi drafts for you. Each design option you receive will be priced individually, allowing you to see costs up-front before selecting a design.

Also during the consultation, Naomi will review the payment schedule and modifications policy with you and answer any questions you may have.

These ranges are given to provide a general guideline. The pricing for every custom design is determined individually based on the design’s intricacy and material costs:

Tiaras & Crowns $1,800 - $3,500

Combs & Vines $950 - $2,500

Pins $450 - $1,300

Earrings $150 - $350

Necklaces $150 - $900

Lapel Pins, Boutonnieres, Brooches, & Suit Embellishment $200 - $1,200

When to begin

We recommend beginning the custom design process 4-6 months before your event date for hairpieces and bridal party collections, and 2-3 months in advance for jewelry.
